The Bone Seasons kinda gets straight to the point. There isn’t really a introduction or so, the book just begins and drags you with it!
We meet 19-yeard-old Paige Mahoney who works in the criminal underworld of Scion London. But this isn’t the London as we know it. The London in this world is ruled by Scoin, an organization that wants to eradicate people who are a bit.. unusual. In this world not everyone is normal, there are people who aren’t normal. Paige is one of the unusual, she is a dreamwalker, a clairvoyant.
Paige’s life is turned upside down when she gets kidnapped and is transported to Oxford, a city that ‘disappeared’ over 200 years ago. Paige always thought that the city was lost, that no one lived there anymore. But she was wrong.. The city is ruled by those of a different race, a race that wants to rule over all the clairvoyants. In this city the clairvoyants are getting trained by them and they aren’t allowed to leave.. EVER.
Welcome, to The Bone Season.
Okay, I admit, this description of mine a bit vague. The book starts super quick, which took me by surprise. Most of the time it takes a while for a fantasy novel to get going, but not this one! Yay! What was a bit annoying, was that they use certain terms that you don’t know. In the back is a dictionary, but it was a bit annoying to go back and forth in the novel. Luckily you’ll get used to the terms soon enough, but still a bit annoying!
But when you know all the terms, you are getting sucked more and more into the story. It gets almost impossible to put the book down.
Paige is the kind of character that slowly crawls into your heart and never leaves. You don’t want anything bad to happen to her. Paige is a strong character that doesn’t back down easily. No way she is going down without a fight. You get to know her strong and weak sides, and you just love her. I cannot tell you otherwise, she is amazing!
I enjoyed this book so much! I cannot wait to start with The Mime Order (the second book in this series).
This book contained every fantasy novel needs, especially the world building. That was amazing!
It also contains amazing characters, and the tension also was amazing. Like, I loved this book so much!
I ended up rating it 5 stars!
