Hide and Seek – M.J. Arlidge

Detective inspector Helen Grace has spent her whole life running. From her past and herself. She has spent her whole life hiding behind her badge, behind her reputation as one of the country best detectives.

Until she got framed for murder and became one of its most high-profile prisoners.

HMP Holloway is a place of dark days and long nights, with dangers at every turn. Helen is despised by the inmates and despised by the guards.

When a carefully mutilated body is found in a locked cell, Helen feels like she must find the ruthless serial killer, before the killer finds her…

I heard amazing things about M.J. Arlidge, so I was super excited to read a book from this author!

There is a series, and even though this is book 6 in the series, you don’t feel like you are missing important information.

The first thing you’ll notice, are the incredibly short chapters. And when I say short, I mean short. The longest chapter contained 4 (!!!) pages. Personally, for me, the chapter sizes were way too short. I don’t mind short chapter (around 6 pages), but this just felt ridiculous.
The book lacks depth, a lot. But I guess you can expect that. But I still prefer my thrillers with a bit more depth. It wasn’t a faced paced book, for me. But mostly because I knew what was coming, which takes away the fun, to be honest.

If you love the tv series like ‘Castle’, then this might be the book for you! I do like the TV series ‘Castle’, but I prefer my books to have a bit more depth than this one had. In the end I bought it more for the hype.

I ended up giving it 3 stars, but I will probably sell my copy.
